Guess the most popular music app on facebook

The most popular music app on Facebook today isn’t iLike or another app that lets users share song snippets or playlists.

It’s BandPage by RootMusic, which lets bands create custom Facebook pages.

According to Facebook’s rankings (see below for screenshot), BandPage has almost 30 million active monthly users — that’s more than twice as many as the number-two music app, another Facebook-for-musicians app called Band Profile.

Lynx launches ‘real time’ social hub app

Lynx, the Unilever-owned deodorant brand, has today launched a new mobile app that allows a group of men on a night out to create a “real-time” record of their evening.

The Lynx Stream app, developed in the US by digital agency Razorfish, is available for free from the iTunes Store and Android Market from today (6 May).

Lynx Stream encourages consumers to download the app at the beginning of a night out and create an exclusive hub that friends can use to streamline their social media activity together, in one place.

More compelling is the fact that not only do huge numbers download this game, they play it with such focus that the total number of hours consumed by Angry Birds players world-wide is roughly 200 million minutes a DAY, which translates into 1.2 billion hours a year.

With the launch of Google’s Chrome Web Store looming, the creators of Firefox have unveiled what it calls a “prototype of an Open Web App Ecosystem.” Can Mozilla get developers and other tech companies on board with its proposed system, though?

Mozilla calls the proposed ecosystem “Open Web Apps” and has laid out both technical documentation and key design principles for apps to qualify as Open Web Apps.

The open Web is a great platform for rich applications. It would be even better if it had additional capabilities to ease discovery, acquisition, installation and use of apps, while also enabling monetization for developers. We designed and built a prototype of a system for open Web apps: Apps built using HTML/CSS/JavaScript that work both on computers and mobile phones, have many of the characteristics that users find compelling about native apps and provide developers with open and flexible distribution options.
