‘Invisibility Cloak’ uses mirages to make objects vanish

Researchers from the University of Texas at Dallas have hijacked one of nature’s most intriguing phenomena — the mirage — to make an invisibility cloak. It can hide objects from view, works best underwater and even has a near-instant on/off switch.

To understand how it works, you need to first grasp the basics of the mirage effect. This unusual experience, sometimes seen in the desert or on hot roads during the summer, can trick your brain into seeing objects that aren’t really there.

Phew! Lady Gaga’s YouTube channel is restored after copyright issues

Lady Gaga’s official YouTube channel has been restored after it was blocked over a copyright dispute. Yesterday, [14 July] a notice on the site stated that the suspension was due to “multiple or severe violations of YouTube’s copyright policy”. By Thursday evening the account was back to normal. The Google Inc. owned YouTube channel declined to comment. Its policy is to remove accounts after three copyright violations. Read more By BBC Newsbeat, 15 July 2011.

In Gmail, you no longer have to use obsolete technology such as a mouse and a keyboard to write, compose, or reply to emails: you can do all of those simply by moving your body.

Of course, even the smile of Google’s Paul McDonald as he utters the announcement of the “feature” gives away that it’s really an April Fools’ joke, but it’s hilarious nevertheless. Check out the desperate-looking presenter as he twists his body trying to compose and send an email without ever touching a keyboard in the video below:
